What is Composer 2.5?

Composer 2.5 is a coding model developed by Cursor. As of May 2026, according to Nathaniel Whittemore, it scored 69.3% on Terminal Bench 2.0, just behind Opus 4.7. On SweBench multilingual, it scored comparably to Opus 4.7 at 80.5% and GPT-5.5 at 77.8%. Whittemore noted that Composer 2.5 performed at a level comparable to Opus 4.7 and GPT-5.5, slightly ahead on medium settings and slightly below on extra high and max settings, but at 10 to 60x lower cost. This has led Cursor to claim that their model is 10x more efficient compared to similarly capable models.
