What is Earth?

Earth is the planet humans inhabit, whose radio emissions have been leaking into space since the 1930s, and whose magnetic field and rotation rate serve as reference points for comparing other celestial bodies.

• Feb 2026 - Neil deGrasse Tyson said that we will soon know if there has ever been or currently is life in our solar system other than on Earth.
• Apr 2026 - Brian Greene said that life on Earth began about 200 million years after the planet formed, around 4 billion years ago.
• Apr 2026 - Andy Weir said that Jupiter’s magnetic field is about 25 times as powerful as Earth’s, and Jupiter rotates once every 6 hours.
• May 2026 - Charles Liu said that Earth has already displayed itself to the universe via leaked radio waves since the 1930s.
• Jul 2026 - Neil deGrasse Tyson said that if the sun became a black hole today, Earth would plunge into darkness but could still continue to orbit it in the same way.
