What is Zcash?

Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that offers shielded transactions. As of May 2026, Tushar Jain stated that Zcash “will almost certainly be the first quantum proof chain.” In June 2026, Josh Swehart noted that organizations “everywhere could be in complete compliance and still support shielded” transactions, but “just chose or have chosen not to.” He also described shielded usage as “the most important KPI” for Zcash. Swehart further claimed that “if Bitcoin is able to 10x from here, Zcash is easily 100x from here.”
