Content owners and publishers are pushing back on AI training use of their content, demanding revenue share or separation from AI crawls.

The case

Content owners will not settle for a 10% revenue share from AI companies, they will push for 100% of AI revenues.

Content providers are now demanding that Google separate its search crawl from its AI crawl so publishers can appear in search without being used to train AI.

“There's a new trend happening now, Friedberg, they're a lot of content providers are saying to Google, take us out of the index because Google has one bot and that bot does the Google crawl and that bot also does the AI crawl. And what the industry is saying is, hey, split that up. I want to be in Google, but I don't want to be indexed in AI.”
