TBAC (tool, task, transaction-based access control) is Cisco's proposed replacement for RBAC and ABAC, designed to handle identity and access control for AI agents operating within multi-agent systems.

A tiered micro-segmentation model: apply agent-based micro-segmentation only to the most sensitive workloads (such as EMR), and use agentless firewall policy (such as existing Cisco firewalls) for everything else, reaching roughly 80 percent coverage with far less operational overhead.

Cisco proposes two new OSI layers for agent communication: L8 for syntactic communication and L9 for semantic communication or cognition state protocols, enabling enterprise agent-to-agent interoperability.

Ben Pouladian distinguishes Nvidia from Cisco by arguing compute creates intelligence, not a commodity.
